LMS Celebrates the Inaugural Inductees into the National Adult Education Honor Society (NAEHS)

Literacy Mid-South's mission is to provide literacy resources to learners of all backgrounds and ages. This foundational skill can unlock a person's potential for success, from performing well in school, interacting with others, solving problems, seeking employment, and supporting a family.

The Adult Learning Program offers tutoring for adults looking to improve their reading, writing, and digital literacy skills and for non-native English speakers who want to improve their English skills. We match a group of 2-4 adults based on goals and level. When adults learn together, they have peer support and motivate each other to continue learning. A trained volunteer facilitates small group learning using collaborative learning strategies focusing on interest-based learning.

"We are so proud of this group of learners and the volunteers for participating in the program and serving as an example of what happens when we invest time and resources to improve literacy skills. Our Adult Learning Program aims to promote economic development, enhance the quality of life, improve health outcomes, and break the intergenerational low-literacy skills cycle. We want to give all community members the tools they need to succeed personally and professionally." said Sam O'Bryant, Executive Director.
