LMS Celebrates Adoption of 23 MSCS Schools

On October 17th, Literacy Mid-South (LMS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) to expand the Tutor901 program, a high-impact tutoring initiative that has been instrumental in improving literacy outcomes for students, into 23 schools. Tutor901 provides small-group, in-person tutoring during the school day, with proven success in accelerating learning.

Literacy Mid-South’s Tutor901 program is a research-backed, high-impact tutoring model designed to help students reach critical literacy milestones. Since its launch, the program has garnered significant support, including being one of only five organizations to receive the TN ALL Corps Community Partner grant in 2022 and one of three organizations to receive the Connected Literacy Partners grant in 2023.

"At Literacy Mid-South, we are committed to ensuring that every student has access to the resources they need to succeed, and the expansion of our Tutor901 program is a tremendous step in that direction," said Sam O'Bryant, CEO of Literacy Mid-South. "This partnership allows us to provide high-impact tutoring, book distributions, and family engagement activities like Family Literacy Nights to support schools across the district. We are grateful for the continued support from our district and community partners, whose collaboration makes this crucial work possible for students and families."
