Stepping In as Interim CEO of Literacy Mid-South

Dear Literacy Mid-South Community,

As we say farewell to Sam O'Bryant and thank him for his visionary leadership, I want to express my deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the interim CEO of Literacy Mid-South. Sam’s impact on this organization has been remarkable, and I am honored to follow in his footsteps as we continue the important work of advancing literacy in our community.

I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Board of Directors for several years, most recently as Chair, so I am familiar with the organization’s mission, team, and operations. Over the next few weeks, I will be working closely with Sam to ensure a smooth transition and transfer of knowledge, which will allow me to build on the strong foundation he has established. I am committed to ensuring that Literacy Mid-South continues to thrive during this transition period.

In the first 30-60 days, I will focus on:

  1. Engaging with the Literacy Mid-South team: I’ll be meeting with staff across all departments to listen, learn, and support them as we move forward together.

  2. Connecting with our key partners and funders: Relationships are at the heart of our success, and I’ll be working to strengthen those connections to ensure ongoing support and collaboration.

  3. Maintaining operational effectiveness: I’ll be reviewing our current programs and initiatives to ensure we remain on track with our goals, particularly our growth with Tutor901 and our literacy resource distribution.

  4. Providing clear and consistent communication: I am committed to keeping all stakeholders informed throughout this transition, including updates on our search for a permanent CEO and any other organizational developments.

I look forward to working closely with the dedicated team, board members, and community partners to ensure that Literacy Mid-South continues to fulfill its mission. Together, we will build on the strong foundation that has been laid and keep making strides toward our shared goals.

Thank you again for your support during this exciting next chapter for Literacy Mid-South. I am eager to serve and committed to our continued success.

Sincerely,
John Nichols
Interim CEO, Literacy Mid-South
